CATEGORIES:
Note: it is the competitors responsibility to
provide sufficient documentation that equipment that is not listed in the
examples at the bottom are of the correct period. Rifles will be inspected at
registration. Those not meeting "Vintage" specifications will fire in the "Out
of Competition" Class.
1. Vintage Sniper Rifle:
To keep it in the
spirit of the intent of the match, we will be using the new CMP Vintage Sniper
Rifle rules. A rifle is legal if it is legal for any of the CMP vintage rifle
matches, and its design was made in 1953 or earlier. (for example, you may have
a 1956 dated M1 Garand which is identical to the 1953 issued version, it would
be legal).
NOTE! 1903 Springfields serial 800,000 or less will not be
allowed to fire due to safety concerns.
Optics: Vintage Sniper Rifles
may be equipped with a non-issue but period (Not designed after 1953) or replica
optical sight. Modern optical sights may not be used. The magnification may not
be more than twice what was found on a documented rifle. This will allow a 4
power scope to be used in place of a 2.5. But will not allow a 10 power scope to
replace a 2.5 power one. Replicas of original vintage scopes will be allowed. US
rifles should have US Scopes, Foriegn Sniper rifles will not be limited to
matching scopes to country of origin of the rifle. Guns shall be in as issued
condition, no fiberglass stocks, no bedding, no match triggers, etc. unless the
gun was issued as such. Trigger pull weights for M1 Garands, M1917, and 98 Krags
shall be 4.5 lbs minimum. All other rifles shall have a 3.5 minimum.
Scope Mounting: does not have to be original or even original style
mount or rings.
Stocks: Should be military issue style, and may not
have modifications that increase accuracy, such as shims, or glass bedding.
2. Vintage Open Sight Rifle: Any Safe Vintage Rifle, WWII or older manually operated, as issued rifles. Trigger pull weights for M1 Garands,
M1917, and 98 Krags shall be 4.5 lbs minimum. All other rifles shall have a 3.5 minimum.
3. "Out of Competiton Class": Any Rifle not covered in 1 or 2 above, under 33 cal, Any Sights, No Compensator, can be supported front and
rear, bipods and mechanical rests are allowed. However, this class will not be eligible for awards or Titles. (This is to allow those who do not want to shoot old rifles to participate)
Shooting equipment: All normally used match shooting equipment and apparel may be used, shooting mat, coats, gloves,
slings, spotting scope, etc. WWI and WWII field gear such as helmets, ammo cans, rucksacks etc may be used as a front rifle support. Field gear does not need to be authentic, but must be approved by the match director as being in the spirit of the match prior to use. If a competitor chooses they may use a a sand bag, or a bean bag front bag rest. No bipods or mechanical rests may be used. No rear rests may be used. The range may not be modified by digged etc.
SAFETY
EQUIPMENT: All competitors and range personel are urged to bring hearing and eye protection with them and to wear them whenever shooting takes
place.
Ammunition: Legal ammunition may be military surplus Ball or match ammunition. Commercial ammunition loaded with FMJ, soft point or match
style projectiles, or handloads using FMJ, soft point or match style projectiles. No tracer, armor piercing or incendiary type ammunition or projectiles may be used.

AWARDS: Trophies will be presented to the Champion in the Vintage Sniper catagory, and the Champion of the Vintage Rifle catagory.
Targets: Targets will be dark paper on a light background. (Current plan is for E target at 300, and at 600 yds)
RULES and COURSE OF FIRE
ALL GENERAL FIREARM SAFETY GUIDELINES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
All firing will be from prone, with the rifle in the shoulder. Front
may be supported by field gear. (See Shooting Equipment section)
Rifle slings
are allowed.
Open Bolt Indicators are required (Available at range for $1.00
each)
All competitors will be required to SCORE and PULL TARGETS for their
fellow competitors.
A parent or legal guardian must accompany competitors
under 16.
RULES: This Program will constitute the rules. Any interpretation will
be up to the match director.
The match director reserves the right to
modify the program at any time. The Match Directors decision is final, Unless
overridden by his wife!
Course of Fire:
300 yards: 5 sighters in 5 minutes, then 15
rounds for record fired at 300 yards as per timing of fire (below).
600
Yards: 5 sighters in 5 minutes, then 15 rounds for record fired at 600 yards as
per timing of fire (below).
Timing of Fire: When sighting shots are
fired, the targets will be withdrawn into the pits, marked and immediately put
back up, the shooter may then again fire.
For the record shots, targets will
be exposed as a group, for 20 seconds, in which time the shooter will fire one
shot. At the end of the 20 seconds, the targets will then be withdrawn into the
pits for at least 30 seconds and scored. Targets will then appear for for
another 20 seconds in which time the shooter will fire his next shot, etc.
Crossfries: If 2 shots appear on a target, both will be marked,
and the shooter assigned to that target will get the higher score. The shooter
with the missing shot will get a zero for that shot>
Alibi's
There will be NO alibi shots allowed. However, if a shooter does not get all of
his shots fired in the record course, they will be given one more series equal
to the number of saved rounds. These shots will be recorded by the shooter only for their information only, they will not be counted towards score.

removed and a 4 power scope mounted on the reciever. Stock was a cut down
special military stock.

2.5 power scope mounted on the reciever.
M1C Garand An M1 with a 2.5 power scope mounted on the side of the reciever.
M1D Garand An M1 with a 2.5 power scope mounted on a barrel band.

Examples of 1953 or earlier foriegn issue sniper rifles would include, P14 sniper, M1909 sniper, VZ24 sniper, G98 or K98
sniper, SVT 40 sniper, 91/30 PE and PU sniper, M96 sniper, No 4 (T), G43 sniper,
ZFK55 (K31) etc.
Examples of legal foriegn Sniper scopes would include original or replica PE, PU, ZF 39, ZF 41, Ajack, kERN AARA, Helia4 (Not
"permacenter" on Helia4) etc.
